Right platform?

The initial selection of Ancestry.com was based on the following:

- universal access, not platform dependent

- no software to maintain or update

- no data storage or loss over time

- friendly structure and views

- robust in terms of details that can be added

- variety of data sources that auto search

- large community participation with other members trees

I rejected all platforms that required local software or file maintence such as Ancestral Quest, this is program P/P/P/P used and was in use long before the web based systems.

Ancestral Quest has now developed strong ties with FamilySearch which is the LDS database, these links allow data to be moved back and forth, compared and the like.

Similarly, ancestry.com has a software side that works with Family Tree Builder.

Cleary, these are the two leading camps in this business. I have done a number of searches on both FamilySearch.com (gdanielp high85) and Ancestry.com; neither is helpful with data pre John Pridmore and neither could find me.

I am still confident ancestry.com is the way to go; however, we should have access to the P/P/P/P records and ancestral quest is the path.
